about the project

This project was a blast to create!

The purpose of the project is to further engage the Cary Academy community with our environment. My independent study has been focused on labeling representative trees around campus, funded by the PTAA Grant, and developing this website as an additional learning tool.

After lots of research and hard work, the project finally came into view in T3! I designed each plate using Photoshop, ordered the plates and stakes, attached the plates to the stakes, and began implementing them on campus. On the physical component, the intent is for the QR code to be scanned, which leads you to the specific tree page on the website for the tree you visited. On the online component, I hope that the in-depth information on each tree can be used, both inside and outside the classroom. Why not make our campus an interactive, walk-and-learn information center?

Overall, the goal for this project is to make our community more aware of our surroundings and to bring nature to the forefront of our minds, as it often is left in the periphery. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or just general ideas you have! I'd love to hear what you have to say about the project, and I'm excited that the entire community gets to see it!
